Eastern Massage - is a combination of remedial massage modalities that works physically, mentally and emotionally. It utilizes acupuncture points, meridians, reflex points and stretches to effectively treat a wide range of health conditions.
Massage assists exercise by releasing and realigning. When muscles are over tight (hypo tonic) they won't fire correctly leading to less effective exercise results. Eastern remedial massage is excellent at realigning and opening up the body leaving you able to perform every day tasks, sports, pilates and more with more ease and movement, therefore getting more out of your life, sport, and workouts.

Massage Modalities used in Treatments -
A unique combination of the following modalities are used in Eastern Remedial Massage.
Which Modalities are utilized in any given treatment are tailored to your individual needs.
Remedial Massage
Remedial Massage means to assess and treat, it is a process of correcting a fault or deficiency.
When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted and tense or immobile, Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow. Remedial massage holistically treats the whole body and traces the discomfort as far as possible back to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms. Remedial Massage Technique utilizes several specialized techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms. Therapy stimulates blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation. Muscular and skeletal dysfunctions are specifically addressed with Remedial Massage.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a holistic healing art developed in Japan and based on traditional 3500-year-old oriental medical wisdom while incorporating the principles of anatomy, physiology and pathology. The theory of traditional Chinese medicine proposes that energy, otherwise known as chi, qi (or ki in Japanese), moves through the body in well-defined channels or pathways known as meridians. Each meridian is connected to an internal organ and carries the energy of that organ’s functioning. Good health is reliant upon the harmonious flow of chi through the meridians and internal organs. Shiatsu is a dynamic body therapy in which the therapist interacts with the receiver to restore balance in the energy system. Imbalance, that is, too little or too much chi, can manifest in various ailments, depending on which meridians are affected.
Like most natural therapies, shiatsu is based on the assumption that the body is a self-healing organism, and that the role of the practitioner is to aid and support that naturally occurring process. Shiatsu can assist an individual with their self-development and self-healing; balancing the underlying causes of a condition and addressing physical and psychological functions; promoting health and strengthening the body’s own healing abilities. Although the word shiatsu translates literally from the Japanese as ‘finger pressure’, in practice, the thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet are used to apply pressure to various parts of the body. Pressure can be gentle or firm, depending on the condition being treated.
Treatment may also include the use of flowing stretches and gentle rotations of the limbs and joints, simple structural alignments and muscle release techniques. On a physical level this has the effect of stimulating circulation and the flow of lymphatic fluid. It also works on the autonomic nervous system; helps to release toxins and deep-seated tension from the muscles, and can also stimulate the hormonal system. On a subtler level shiatsu allows the receiver to deeply relax, stimulating the body’s inherent ability for self healing and regeneration
Thai Massage
Thai Massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle pressure with the hands and feet. These movements help to adjust the skeletal structure, increase flexibility, relieve muscular and joint tension, stimulate internal organs and balance the body's energy system. The effect is both relaxing as well as energising.
As an ancient form of massage, Thai Massage is traditionally done on a mat on the floor, and combines other natural therapies such as Shiatsu, Acupressure and Yoga. It facilitates a sense of unity, wholeness and balance. It creates a dynamic physical experience that integrates the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Acupressure
Ancient Chinese discovered that applying pressure to distinct points on the body produced specific therapeutic effects and was also very effective in reducing muscular tension. This lead to the development of acupressure and its use in remedial massage. Pressure applied to these points encourages the free flow of Qi through their channels thus removing blockages, easing spasms & pain and allowing recovery.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a modality that is based on applying pressure to different areas of the feet. The principle is that different areas of the body - the organs and other structures relate to reflex areas on the feet. By stimulation of the reflex areas this is designed to trigger the body to respond to particular ailments and balance the body, mind and emotions. It is safe, gentle, non intrusive and promotes healing and relaxation. Reflexology will not make any condition worse.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue Massage, as its name says, focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres.
Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, the purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to unstick the fibres of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held tension points. Specific hand positions and strokes are used to respond to various tissues while breath and movement techniques are employed to release muscular congestion. It helps to loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. It is both corrective and therapeutic. It is beneficial for many physical problems, including sports injuries and chronic pain. Because it works very deeply, emotional issues can also be addressed, when these have been stored in the body. Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on specific areas and may cause some soreness during or after the session. If this is done correctly however, you should feel better within a day or two.
Cupping
Involves creating a vacuum in glass or rubber cups that are placed over an area of injury or stagnation. The cups may be left in place or drawn over the surface of the skin. The vacuum draws any stagnant Qi or blood to the surface, increases circulation, relaxes muscles, reduces pain, breaks down scar tissue, treats cellulite and enhances recovery. If stagnant pathogenic factors are drawn to the surface, the skin may develop a reddish-purple colour which will fade over a few days.
Moxibustion
is a warming treatment where a herb similar to Mugwort is lit and applied close to the skin over an acupuncture point, channel or injury. It has a deeply penetrating therapeutic effect and speeds recovery by promoting the flow of Qi & blood, dispersing stagnation that causes discomfort & pain, nourishing the body and dispersing cold or damp. Moxibustion warms and relaxes tight tissues, relieves pain and promotes healthy tissue repair.
