The purpose of Self massage and Stretching is to help you achieve the most out of your body (and mind) in order to achieve your personal and horse riding best. Women and men alike will reap the amazing benefits from performing this therapy on a regular, frequent basis. Self massage and stretching addresses muscles that are damaged, knotted, tense or immobile. It is useful for a variety of problems that affect your muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Both massage and stretching works in creating correct posture and alignment, correcting muscle imbalances, getting the most out of your fitness and preventing injuries. It also assists in the functioning of your nervous system, and can aide in a number of other health and wellbeing issues. That is often combined with improper alignment in your body, which leads to poor posture, and compensation. This combination results in tight muscles in some areas of your body, while weak muscles in other areas. When this scenario occurs, your posture becomes even worse, exacerbating the problem. Over periods of time, this all too often lead to soreness, pain, even injury. It also has a profoundly negative effect on your riding performance and riding posture. It is a negative cycle that spirals down into an unhappy, unhealthy and often very painful scenario. As a rider, this scenario will also have negative impacts on your horse’s performance as well.
What is Self Massage and Stretch?
Massage and Stretch works by sitting lying, standing, leaning against various pieces of simple equipment (which act the role of a massage therapist), as well as adopting body positions in order to stretch, and open up your body. Self Massage and Stretch is designed so that you can move freely, with ease, and pain free. Nerve gliding is also part of this modality. Nerve gliding consists of gentle stretching exercises that mobilise and release irritated nerves.
Self Massage ad Stretch releases and realigns your muscles, joints and nerves. When muscles are over tight (hypo tonic) they won't fire correctly leading to less effective exercise results. When your muscles become overly tight this can lead to tight-stiff joints. Joint stiffness is the feeling that the movement of your joints is limited or difficult.
Your nerves can also become too tight and stiff, due to a number of factors. This causes sensations such as; Numbness or decreased sensation in the area supplied by the nerve, sharp, aching or burning sensations, numbness, tingling, pins and needles sensations (paresthesia), Muscle weakness in the affected area.
Self Massage and Stretch also includes Eastern Therapies, aimed to restore the body's balance and harmony between the natural opposing forces of yin and yang, which can block qi and cause health and wellbeing issues.

Over the years I accumulated much knowledge about issues people, including horse riders, face with their bodies, mind and emotions. I enjoyed combining Sports and Remedial Massage with Eastern modalities. This empowered me to treat not only muscle/skeletal conditions, but also emotional issues and other health conditions in which people can suffer from. A qualified and experienced body worker such as; Remedial Massage therapist, myotherapist, Osteopath, Chiropractor, physiotherapist, Acupuncturist etc will assess your posture, alignment, muscle imbalances and more. They will look at your body, and movements to discover the root cause of your issues. Then design a treatment plan in order to heal your individual body problem/s.
If you have a diagnosed injury, you will recive a rehabilitation program from your therapist. On completion of your exercise rehabilitation program wit your therapist, you can commense Pilates and Self Massage-Stretch through Remedial Equestrian Therapies.
